On March 20 & 21, I was invited by RESCALED to contribute to its European Symposium on Detention Houses held under the auspices of the Belgian Presidency of the Council of the European Union 2024.
This event focused on the challenging movement towards small-scaled, differentiated and community integrated forms of detention. I was fascinated by the many enthusiastic believers that we urgently need to rethink how our society reacts on criminal behaviour. An although there are different flavours and opinions on how to move forward, what we have in common is the energy and believe that it’s possible to change.
I’ve looked at this with my digital transformation and enterprise architectural lens and learned that the 3 principles: Small Scale, Differentiation and Community Integration are powerful terms to be used as design principles for all kind of digital transformation initiatives in corrections… Not only the physical world could learn from rescaled, also the virtual one 😀
A sustainable change requires another way of thinking for all stakeholders, it was inspiring to hear so many different perspectives and also see the political support for this. Thank you the entire team of RESCALED and special thanks to Veronique Aicha and Helene De Vos for the invitation and the hard work!
